St Mary's Charities
Two of the main charities supported by the parish are CAFOD and Project Arusha. CAFOD is the official overseas development and relief agency of the Catholic Church in England and Wales. Project Arusha (Registered Charity number 1124283) is our own parish charity which ‘twins’ us with schools and parishes in the Archdiocese of Arusha in northern Tanzania, East Africa.
CAFOD
The parish CAFOD group does not have meetings as such, but those participating are invited to make an offering each week by using the envelopes available from the table at the back of church and simply placing them in with the normal offertory collection. The envelopes also have provision for donors who pay Income Tax to claim 'Gift Aid'. See www.cafod.org.uk

Project Arusha
Following the Nottingham Diocesan Assembly in 2003, and using existing contacts with Tanzania, Project Arusha was launched in 2004. It has the broad aim of helping us to focus on the wider Church by better understanding the needs of our fellow Catholic Christians in a diocese in the developing world. The Project does this by sponsoring students from our parishes and local Catholic secondary school who have just finished their A levels to go to Tanzania and teach in schools in the Arusha Diocese. In addition, financial assistance is given to the schools and to some of the poorer students. Donations have also been sent in times of crisis when there is drought and danger of famine.
